Athlete Code of Conduct

General Expectations

  • Eclipse Cheerleading has a zero tolerance policy for disrespectful, disruptive or inappropriate behaviour towards any person associated with our programmes.

  • Athletes are expected to respect coaches’ judgements and instructions at all times.

  • Athletes should interact with their teammates in a courteous and cooperative manner

  • When competing, performing or at social events, athletes are expected to represent the club in a positive way and with a high standard of behaviour.

  • No athlete, parent or participant should attempt to teach any form of cheerleading or gymnastics, or spot any skill without receiving proper training and permission from a coach.

  • All routines, choreography, stunt formations and designs are the intellectual property of Eclipse Cheerleading and should not be discussed or shared without permission.


Sportsmanship

  •  Eclipse athletes and families must be respectful and courteous to any opponents, officials, judges and staff at all times.

  • Eclipse athletes must conduct themselves with good manners, never make any derogatory remarks or gestures, must not use profanity and should not respond to this kind of behaviour when it is exhibited by others.

  • At showcases and competitions, athletes should be respectful of performances by applauding at the end and showing enthusiasm.

  • Athletes are expected to behave as role models when representing Eclipse Cheerleading. Refrain from celebrating the misfortune or defeat of another person, team, or program.

  • Accept team placements and awards with dignity and class.


Team Placement (Semi-Elite,
Cheersport,
Elite Teams)

  •  Placement on and within teams is subject to change

  • Placement on all teams is at the discretion of coaches and is not negotiable, these decisions are made by considering a range of factors including but not limited to:

    • Safety

    • Skill level

    • Attitude or personality conflicts

    • Conduct of athlete and parents

    • Attendance

    • Needs of the team

  • Placement and positioning within all teams is at the discretion of coaches and is not negotiable this includes selection of flyers, bases, back spots tumblers, and alternates.

  • Teams are constructed to create strong combinations of athletes with similar goals; carpooling, friendships and siblings are not considered during placements.

  • Athletes are required to maintain their skillset and attempt to improve it throughout the season.


Behaviour

  • Disrespectful, disruptive or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated when directed at athletes, coaches or staff parents or other participants. Please note that this policy includes all internet and social media sites.

  • Athletes should be cooperative and positively participate in all sessions

  • Seniors should be aware of setting an example for younger athletes and ensure their language and behavior is appropriate for all ages

  • Bullying or negative behavior of any kind directed at athletes, coaches, staff members or parents during training or in your own time is unacceptable

  • Physical violence of any sort will result in immediate removal from the programme

  • The emotional and physical safety of our athletes is of paramount importance to use and athletes or parents should tell coaches if they are being bullied or feel unsafe

  • Athletes may be dismissed or suspended for any of the following

    • Possession or use of any illegal drug, controlled substance or drug paraphernalia

    • Committing any act which would be considered an offence under a governing law

    • Repetitive issues with attitude, work ethic, personality conflicts or disrespectful behavior towards coaches, teammates, parents or anyone involved with Eclipse Cheerleading programmes

    • Harassment either verbally, written, texted, emailed, blogged, posted online or communicated in any other means


Uniform and practice wear

  • Clean sports shoes must be worn in the gym at all times, no bare feet or socks.

  • Sportswear such as leggings or bike shorts and fitted shirts should be worn to practice. This is to allow for a full range of movement and safer spotting for skills.

  • Eclipse branded practice wear and cheerleading shoes are optional

  • Hair must be tied back from the face.

  • Jewellery should be removed for all trainings

  • Nails should be kept short

  • At all times athletes should maintain a well-groomed appearance and good personal hygiene.

  • Athletes should be aware that the wearing of any Eclipse Cheerleading merchandise such as t shirts, bows etc. is a reflection of our gym and should behave accordingly.

  • No athlete or family is permitted to create or sell Eclipse Cheerleading clothing or merchandise.

  • Competition uniforms:

    • Eclipse Cheerleading uniforms should only be worn for approved performances and events

    • Competition uniforms are owned by the gym and any lost or damaged items will be billed to families.

    • Performance bows, hairstyle and any make up will be predetermined and discussed in advance of all events


Gym rules

  • Athletes are only permitted on the floor during their scheduled classes.

  • At all other times athletes should wait in the parents and visitors viewing area.

  • Food and drinks other than bottled water are not allowed in the gym.

  • Personal items should be placed on the shelves, not scattered around the gym.

  • Permission must be granted for any photos or videos taken in the gym.

  • Spectators should be respectful to athletes and coaches and refrain from calling out from the viewing area and sideline coaching.

  • Eclipse Cheerleading is not responsible for lost or stolen items.


  • Stunts and tumbling can be dangerous so it is important to pay attention when doing these skills. Lack of concentration can lead to injuries for you and your teammates.

  • Always let coaches know if you are injured or become injured during training.

  • Only stunt and tumble with the instruction and supervision of your coach.

  • Do not try to do skills at home or at school

  • All athletes and parents should follow government health guidelines regarding covid-19 and related safety precautions
