Athlete Code of Conduct
General Expectations
Eclipse Cheerleading maintains a zero-tolerance policy for disrespectful, disruptive, or inappropriate behaviour toward any person associated with our programmes.
Athletes are expected to:
Respect and follow all coaches instructions and decisions at all times.
Interact with teammates in a courteous, supportive, and cooperative manner.
Represent Eclipse Cheerleading with integrity and a high standard of behaviour at trainings, competitions, performances, and social events.
Understand that all routines, choreography, stunt formations, and training methods are the intellectual property of Eclipse Cheerleading and must not be shared or discussed outside the gym without permission.
Never attempt to teach, coach, or spot cheerleading/gymnastics skills without proper training and explicit approval from a coach.
Gym Exclusivity:
Cross-training at another gym creates safety, loyalty, and choreographic conflicts and is not permitted. Athletes who train at Eclipse Cheerleading may not train, compete, or participate in classes at any other cheerleading or tumbling gym/programme without prior discussion with Eclipse management and this is at Eclipse gym owner’s discretion.
Sportsmanship
All Eclipse athletes and families must:
Be respectful and courteous to opponents, officials, judges, volunteers, and event staff.
Conduct themselves with good manners, refrain from profanity, and never make derogatory remarks or gestures.
Avoid responding to negative behaviour displayed by others.
Applaud and show respect for all teams during showcases and competitions.
Serve as positive role models and never celebrate another team’s mistakes or misfortune.
Accept team placements, results, and awards with dignity and professionalism.
Team Placement (Semi-Elite,
Cheersport,
Elite Teams)
Placement on and within teams is at the full discretion of the coaching staff and is not negotiable.
Coaches consider multiple factors including:
Safety
Skill level
Attitude or personality conflicts
Conduct of athlete and parents
Attendance
Needs of the team
Athlete roles within teams (flyers, bases, back spots, tumblers, alternates) are determined solely by coaches and may change at any time.
Friendships, siblings, carpooling arrangements, or external preferences are not considered during placement decisions.
Athletes are expected to maintain their skill set and work to improve throughout the season or their placement in a team may be revised.
Behaviour Expectations
Disrespectful, disruptive, or inappropriate behaviour toward athletes, coaches, staff, parents, or participants is strictly prohibited, both in person and online.
Athletes should:
Participate positively, listen actively, and cooperate during all training sessions.
Use age-appropriate language and behaviour, with seniors setting an example for younger athletes.
Avoid all forms of bullying or negative behaviour, including verbal, physical, or digital harassment (messages, posts, emails, blogs, or social media content).
Report any bullying, safety concerns, or situations where they feel uncomfortable.
Understand that physical violence will result in immediate removal from the programme.
Athletes may be dismissed, suspended, or disciplined for:
Possession or use of illegal drugs, controlled substances, or related paraphernalia.
Any behaviour that would be considered an offence under the law.
Repeated issues with attitude, effort, disrespect, or personality conflicts.
Harassment or inappropriate communication in any form.
Uniform and practice wear
Clean sports shoes must be worn in the gym at all times, no bare feet or socks.
Sportswear such as leggings or bike shorts and fitted shirts should be worn to practice. This is to allow for a full range of movement and safer spotting for skills.
Eclipse branded practice wear are optional but encouraged
Hair must be tied back from the face.
Jewellery should be removed for all trainings
Nails should be kept short
At all times athletes should maintain a well-groomed appearance and good personal hygiene.
Athletes should be aware that the wearing of any Eclipse Cheerleading merchandise such as t shirts, bows etc. is a reflection of our gym and should behave accordingly.
No athlete or family is permitted to create or sell Eclipse Cheerleading clothing or merchandise.
Competition uniforms:
Uniforms may only be worn for approved Eclipse Cheerleading events.
Uniforms may only be worn for approved Eclipse Cheerleading events.
Hairstyles, bows, and makeup requirements will be communicated prior to events and are at the discretion of Eclipse coaches.
Gym rules
Athletes may only be on the gym floor during their scheduled class times.
When not in class, athletes must remain in the parent/visitor viewing area.
Only bottled water is allowed inside the gym; no food or other drinks.
Personal items must be stored on shelves and kept tidy.
Permission is required for taking any photos or videos inside the gym.
Spectators must be respectful and must not call out instructions or attempt to coach from the sidelines.
Eclipse Cheerleading is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Athletes must stay focused during stunts and tumbling to prevent injury.
Athletes must inform coaches immediately if they are injured.
Skills may only be attempted under direct coach supervision.
Skills should not be practised at home or school due to safety risks.
Safety
Stunts and tumbling can be dangerous so it is important to pay attention when doing these skills. Lack of concentration can lead to injuries for you and your teammates.
Always let coaches know if you are injured or become injured during training.
Only stunt and tumble with the instruction and supervision of your coach.
Do not try to do skills at home or at school
All athletes and parents should follow government health guidelines regarding covid-19 and related safety precautions
