Spectator Code of Conduct

Attendance

Cheerleading is a team sport and a high level of commitment is expected from all athletes.

  • Assist your athlete in attending practices and events on time with appropriate gear.

  • Ensure athlete is prepared for each class with appropriate clothing and water bottle.

  • Email or text coaches regarding any injury, illness or absence in a timely manner (do not use social media for this purpose including both Eclipse accounts and staff personal accounts).

  • Notify coaches in writing of any intention to withdraw from an Eclipse Cheerleading programme 2 weeks in advance in order to be fair to the team and ensure no financial confusion.


Sportsmanship

All coaching decisions are made in the best interests of the team, please help us to develop and maintain our supportive and inclusive gym culture by observing the following:

  • Eclipse athletes and families must be respectful and courteous to any opponents, officials, judges and staff at all times.

  • Eclipse athletes and families must conduct themselves with good manners, never make any derogatory remarks or gestures, must not use profanity and should not respond to this kind of behaviour when it is exhibited by others.

  • We have a zero-tolerance policy for any negative, derogatory, bullying or otherwise disrespectful comments about cheerleaders, parents, coaches or other staff. This includes online and on all social media platforms.

  • Ensure you are behaving as a role model for good sportsmanship by encouraging and supporting all athletes, teams and coaches.


Team Placement (Elite, Cheersport, Semi-Elite Teams)

  •  Placement on and within teams is subject to change

  • Placement on all teams is at the discretion of coaches and is not negotiable, these decisions are made by considering a range of factors including but not limited to:

    • Safety

    • Skill level

    • Attitude or personality conflicts

    • Conduct of athlete and parents

    • Attendance

    • Needs of the team

  • Placement and positioning within all teams is at the discretion of coaches and is not negotiable this includes selection of flyers, bases, back spots tumblers, and alternates.

  • Teams are constructed to create strong combinations of athletes with similar goals; carpooling, friendships and siblings are not considered during placements.

  • Athletes are required to maintain their skillset and attempt to improve it throughout the season.


Practices

Eclipse Cheerleading welcomes parents and guardians to watch practices however, we ask that you adhere to the following rules and guidelines:

  • Wait for or watch your athlete from the designated upstairs viewing area. Do not crowd the doorway or sit/ stand/ hover around the edges of the floor.

  • Ensure all young children are supervised and remain in the viewing area.

  • Do not communicate with cheerleaders or coaches from the viewing area, do not discipline your athlete during training and do not be a side-line coach.

  • Respect the viewing area and the gym by leaving it tidy, cleaning up rubbish and keeping track of your belongings.

  • For the safety of athletes, please ask before taking pictures or videos of our training sessions.


Gym rules

  • Athletes are only permitted on the floor during their scheduled classes.

  • At all other times athletes should wait in the parents and visitors viewing area.

  • Food and drinks other than bottled water are not allowed in the gym.

  • Personal items should be placed on the shelves, not scattered around the gym.

  • Permission must be granted for any photos or videos taken in the gym.

  • Spectators should be respectful to athletes and coaches and refrain from calling out from the viewing area and sideline coaching.

  • Adults (regardless of age or gender) should not interact with minors (athletes and coaches) online including all social media.

  • Eclipse Cheerleading is not responsible for lost or stolen items.


It is the parent’s responsibility to stay informed, please keep in touch with us!

We are always happy to make time if you would like to have a chat about your athlete.

  • Ensure your contact details are up to date at all times and advise us via email if they change during the season.

  • Check your emails regularly and let us know if you are having issues receiving them. Ensure we are marked as “not spam” in your folders.

  • Ensure you are a member of the team Heja page as this is used for specific team announcement, posting videos and photos and discussion with other parents.

  • We value your feedback so please refer any issues, queries or questions to us directly via email, text or talk to coaches after practice.
